The Century City Doctors Hospital opened its first phase, 150,000 SF of acute care services, in October 2005 as the largest physician-owned hospital in the United States. The project was completed on a fast-track basis, with only 12 months from the start of construction through licensing and patient care. The cost of the project, including equipment, was $100,000,000.
The systems and infrastructure of this physician-owned facility naturally responded to the recommendations and direction of the doctors themselves, and represent state-of-the-art health care delivery. The hospital is paperless, with digital systems for every patient care and administrative function. More than 480,000 linear feet of data lines and 4,000 connectivity points were installed. The ability to cross-check patient data between pharmacy, laboratory, radiology, and dietary delivery systems is a key factor in minimizing errors in patient care and achieving higher levels of staff efficiency.
Patient rooms also reflect the most modern conveniences, more akin to a five-star hotel than a typical hospital. Each room is equipped with a bed-side computer with Internet access, movies on-demand, television, and menu screens. Menus are automatically customized for each patient’s dietary restrictions and 24-hour room service is standard. VIP rooms also include wide-screen high-definition televisions, a visitor’s sitting area, and the ability to convert an adjacent room to a family-stay area.
