University of Southern California
Academic Medical Center Transition
Los Angeles, California

The University of Southern California Academic Medical Center includes the 411-bed acute care University Hospital and the 60-bed Norris Cancer Hospital, as well as facilities for comprehensive ambulatory care services. Jensen + Partners provided operational and facility review services to the University for the acquisition of Norris Cancer Hospital and USC University Hospital from Tenet Healthcare.

After the acquisition was completed in April 2009, Jensen + Partners continued its services and led a USC strategic space planning initiative. The Jensen + Partners team provided analysis of facilities infrastructure, hospital operations requirements and systems, and a long-term strategic plan for the utilization of owned and leased space. The assessment included University Hospital, Norris Cancer Hospital, Doheny Eye Institute, Healthcare Consultation Center I and Healthcare Consultation Center II, for a total medical enterprise of 1,000,000 gross square feet. Individual work streams included: building structure analysis and seismic retrofit plan; review of leased space and development of long-range planning to utilize leased space; analysis of current hospital utilization; analysis of outpatient and administrative space; space needs assessment and growth projections; equipment planning; master plans for clinical space; phased program development; construction management, and project and transition planning.
