The new Emergency Department at Pleasant Valley Hospital is comprised of 9,300
square feet of new construction and 1,500 square feet of remodeled existing space.
The decision to replace the Emergency Department was made as a result of the community’s
growth and demand projections of future Emergency visits, and the capacity
limitations of the current Department. The rapid growth rate of the Ventura County
population, and the strategic location of the facility between two major freeways, has
made St. John’s Pleasant Valley Hospital a key resource for emergency care.

The Emergency Room project includes an outpatient waiting and admitting area, a triage
room, fourteen patient exam rooms, a centralized nursing station, support areas,
and the exterior ambulance driveway. The project also includes upgrades to the site
utilities at the hospital to support the new Emergency Department, and for the future
replacement of the existing bed tower. The utilities project commenced prior to the
Emergency Department work to minimize disruption of services.

The design of the Emergency Department was developed as the first phase of the
transformation of the hospital’s building style, which features a low overhanging tile
roof and smooth plaster walls, with field stone wainscot and large punched windows.
Canopies and a strong tower element serve to signify this department as the public
entrance.
