AltaMed Health Services Corporation
AltaMed is the largest independent Federally Qualified Community Health Center in the United States, with more than forty sites in Los Angeles and Orange Counties. AltaMed has delivered quality care to the underserved communities of Southern California for more than forty years, and has been designated by the Joint Commission as a Primary Care Medical Home (PCMH).
AltaMed engaged Jensen + Partners to develop “clinic of the future” templates for a range of sizes and program types that could quickly and cost-effectively guide construction and renovation of acquired clinic sites. The templates were developed through hands-on, participatory, Lean-focused work sessions with stakeholder groups that included key leaders, providers, medical and administrative front line staff, and patients.
Clinic of the Future prototypes included small, medium, and large clinic templates for primary care; primary care with dental; adult specialties; a super-center offering all care types and facilities for the Program for All-inclusive Care for the Elderly (P.A.C.E.), and for children with obesity. The templates were designed to offer AltaMed consistent standard environments for healthcare delivery across all its new sites that incorporate Lean design to enhance operational efficiency and effectiveness, as well as patient and provider satisfaction.
Due to its rapid growth, AltaMed engaged Jensen + Partners to perform corporate employee space planning for its headquarter campus. Responding to projected workforce growth rates, Jensen + Partners established a need for a new administrative building, which would include space for employee training, community classrooms , and continuing education for employees. The building also incorporated a series of employee wellness services such as a 10,000 SF gym and cafeteria. Using open floor plan concepts, Jensen + Partners was able to maximize existing space while meeting the needs of employee growth.
“The Jensen team provided the perfect complement of expertise needed to assist AltaMed in program development, future workflows vs space design, while assessing and validating these elements using value, financial metrics, and patient input. They worked with over one hundred AltaMed employees representing a cross-section of physicians, clinic and support staff, administrators, and executives by facilitating highly interactive work sessions to develop templates, architectural branding recommendations and demand/capacity modeling to project future growth needs.”
