Martin Luther King Jr. Medical Center
The Los Angeles County Department of Public Works awarded MLK Partners—a joint venture of Jensen + Partners, Jacobs Engineering, RBB,and Jenkins/Gales/ Martinez—the contract to provide construction management services for the revitalization of the Martin Luther King, Jr. (MLK) Medical Center. The project includes renovation of an existing tower for inpatient care, and construction of a new Multi-service Ambulatory Care Center building. The project also includes construction of a new 20,000-GSF Ancillary Building housing a cafeteria and administrative support functions. The overall budget is $355 million, and the schedule calls for completion in 2014.
The five-year plan focused on creating a comprehensive outpatient care center near campus, developing a new campus gateway, relocating administration away from prime core clinical services, and re-purposing existing historic buildings on campus. The 20-year plan focused on building a new trauma building, replacing and refurbishing existing deficient structures, and rendering a new behavioral health institute.
